OT: The Book of Numbers, Chapter 10

Numbers 10:1-36

10:1-8 Through Moses, God establishes a communication system. God instructs Moses to create two trumpets. The number of sounds the trumpet makes will call attention to different groups.

10:9-10 The trumpet system will also enable the group to know, quickly, when they are under attack. They will also sound at the beginning of celebrations, as a memorial to God.

10:11-13 The symbol of God's presence, the cloud, lifts and instructs the children of Israel to journey.

10:14-28 In specific order and with leadership in each group, the group prepares for travel.

10:29-32 Moses asks Hobab, son of Reuel (Moses' father-in-law) to remain with the group. He tells Hobab that if he remains, God will bless him with the same promises the children of Israel receive.

10:33 And so, the children of Israel depart from Mount Sinai.

10:35 Moses continually prays for God to remain with the children of Israel: to enable them to sleep and rest at night and for them to be protected during their daily expeditions.
