OT: The Book of Genesis, Chapter 36

Genesis 36:1-43

36:1 This chapter details the genealogy of Esau, Jacob's twin brother, Isaac and Rebekah's firstborn son.

36:2-3 Esau's wives: (Recall that Easru took as wives women who did not share the faith or values of his family).
  • Adah: beautiful, ornament
  • Aholibamah: tent of the high place.
  • Basemath: spice.
36:4 The child of Adah: Eliphaz or my god is gold. The child of Basemath: Reuel or friend of God.

For name-meanings refer to definitions from the Strong's Concordance.

36:5 The children of Aholibamah: Jeush or assembler, Jaalam or concealed and Korah or bald born in the land of Canaan.

36:6-8 Esau gathered his household and possessions and separated from Jacob's family. The size of the land could no longer support two such large families. Esau's (nicknamed Edom or red) family lived in Mount Seir.

36: 9-11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.

36:12 Eliphaz had a ton with Timna named Amalek.

36:13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. 

36:14 The sons of Aholibamah are reiterated. 

36:15-19 The Chiefs of Edom are listed.

36:20-30 The sons of Seir are listed.

36:31-39 The kinds of Esau are listed.

26:40-43 The Chiefs of Esau are listed.
