NT: First Epistle of Paul to Timothy, Chapter 3

I Timothy 3:1-16

3:1 Paul is explaining the responsibility of a teacher of this philosophy. It is a lifestyle, a visceral duty.

3:2 An overseer of this faith must be their best in all moments: patience, compassionate, just. Faithful not only to God but also to their family. They must be calm with a serene and unshakable temperament. They must know themselves and be able to control their emotions and actions. They must be respectful, generous, amiable, and of course, they must know how to teach.

3:3 They must always be sober, gentle, non-argumentative, humble and modest. Their passion must be for God and humanity and all life above anything else.

3:4-5 Basically an overseer of this faith must be able to organize, understand and maintain faith, compassion and justice within their own nuclear family in order to be a non-hypocritical and knowledgeable teacher for others.

3:6 An overseer must have a solid and long-held relationship with, and foundation in, God. A teacher of this faith must be consistent, passionate, unwavering, sure.

3:7 An overseer must have built positive relationships with others in their lifelong interactions. They must speak and work with all others with respect and kindness.

3:8 A worker of God is required to be selfless, humble and focused. A worker of God must eliminate the distraction of temptation and desire for selfish and meaningless things.

3:9 A worker of God must stand firmly in their beliefs, must have accessed their spirituality. A child and worker of God must understand the full picture, the interconnected life of all living things created by Him.

3:10 Workers and children of God must be tested for authenticity. A teacher cannot lose their temper, cannot constantly change their beliefs, cannot teach hypocritically. A worker and child of God must live life with selfless motives. A selflessly motivated person builds truth and justice in the world.

3:11 The responsibility requirements are the same for men and women workers of God: kindness, respect, and trust in God. If we do not trust God, we do not have a strong enough connection with Spirituality in order to work with and through It.

3:12 A reiteration of how important it is for a teacher to employ his or her own advice to their own lives. There cannot be a superiority complex. A teacher must reach the same standards they hold their students to: studious, faithful, consistent.

3:13 An of course sincere and productive work in faith is appreciated by God. We are here on earth to be His eyes, ears, and hands: we have the opportunity to help Him accomplish life and peace while we are here.

3:14-15 Paul is helping Timothy (all teachers and students of this faith past, present and future) to become an effective, productive, helpful, faithful teacher. Paul could not sit down with Timothy (or us) personally but he wrote this epistle that we might discover the way to help others help themselves through God.

3:16 An expression of Paul's faith and the blessing of humanity: the manifestation of God's compassion Who came to the earth to help us to find ourselves and give us an eternal, loving home. We are not lost to God; He knows and has always known exactly who and what and where and why we are. But we lose ourselves... He inserted His love and guidance and wisdom into the world that we might learn how to create ourselves and thus discover our potential and purpose while we are here.
